A week ago, Seattle City Light replaced the old, glaring sodium street light on the corner outside of my house with a new shielded LED street light. We can’t believe the difference it has made in the bedroom, it’s actually dark in there now at night. There is still some light, but it is barely noticeable anymore and I am no longer kept awake by it.

And because this street lamp gives off so much less ambient light, it creates much less light pollution. It’s great that Seattle is changing to these new shielded LED lamps. It’s definitely a step in the right direction towards creating darker skies.
