Dark Sky Places and Communities

Dark sky places includes communities, santuaries, preserves, reserves and more. They are located all over the world in hamlets, groves, and great parks. This is land designated through the efforts of local people who yearned for a place to go to see the stars. Some are brought about by the tireless work by astronomers and enthusiasts. One can usually find a local astronomy group to go out with and vew the stars.

Dark Sky Places – Getting There

Dark sky communities are local endeavours and often fraught with controversy. But, regardless of this us vs. them attitude in some places, changes do occur. As humans we always need to be reminded about how long change takes. And it is frustrating when it seems to always feel like one step forward, two steps back.

These blog posts based on news reports about dark sky communities and dark sky designated places go back to 2008. Here is another place I look forward to re-visiting and updating these pieces. Let me know if there’s anything you’d like me to write about, or you would like to contribute yourself.
