Cochrane is a town in Alberta 25 miles from Calgary. Their main news rag is the Cochrane Eagle. A local, Nic David, who is a member of the Environmental Action Committee is urging the Cochrane town concil to “get behind Earth Hour” this year.

What is Earth Hour? Here is what myearthhour.org is asking us to participate in, “On Earth Hour hundreds of millions of people around the world will come together to call for action on climate change by doing something quite simple—turning off their lights for one hour.

The movement symbolizes that by working together, each of us can make a positive impact in this fight, protecting our future and that of future generations. Learn more about how Earth Hour began, what we’ve accomplished, and what is in store for 2010.”

What Nic David is doing in Cochrane is an example of what one person is doing in his or her community to make this real. When you go to the Earth Hour Homepage you can click on your own state and see how you can get involved locally.

Earth Hour will take place on March 27, 2010 at 8:30 PM PST, 11:30 PM EST. What an amazing display of solidarity for our planet and our dark skies when we all turn off our lights for this one hour. We will surely be amazed and delighted with what we see.
